The historic Oregon and California Trails and their various alternate routes wind through Idaho for hundreds of miles. With more surviving trail ruts than any other state, there are many places in Idaho to walk in the footsteps of the emigrants. This hour-long "Outdoor Idaho Special" features dozens of landmarks along the trail including Big Hill, Soda Springs, Fort Hall, Massacre Rocks, Parting of the Ways, Three Island Crossing, Fort Boise and other significant sites. This program also include dramatic reenactments of travel by covered wagon and interviews with historians and trail experts. And it follows the trail today with modern-day wagon trains whose participants want to keep this important heritage alive.
